Clinton Fire Destroys Walgreens, Community Food Pantry

A massive fire tore through the Walgreens on Route 22 in Clinton on Sunday evening, leaving the store and a beloved community food pantry in ruins.

The blaze, reported around 8:45 PM, engulfed the strip mall, but thanks to the tireless efforts of firefighters, damage was contained primarily to the Walgreens and the Open Cupboard Food Pantry, which serves 8,600 people between its two locations in Clinton and another in Washington Township.

One firefighter bravely battling the flames sustained minor injuries and was transported to Hunterdon Medical Center as a precaution.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
